NEWS
"A Different Kind of Love"
Support Group for Females that have been directly impacted by Domestic and/or Family Violence
Shine Counselling identified that on the Sunshine Coast there is a real need to provide a safe place of support to females that have been directly impacted by Domestic and/or Family Violence (either previously or currently).
We know that survivors of Domestic and Family Violence draw strength and benefit from interaction with other survivors of abuse, therefore, Shine Counselling has partnered with Caloundra Community Centre to bridge this gap by creating a safe space for survivors of Domestic and Family Violence to feel secure to share their inner feelings and personal experiences with others that are going through similar experiences. Survivor’s can lean on each other for support, guidance and encouragement. In addition to support, the group offers an educational component.
With this group we aim to:
-
Create a warm, confidential, accepting and informal atmosphere which provides support, trust and safety, that will enable participants to address their experiences as survivors of Domestic and/or Family Violence.
-
Involve all individuals in the group process, creating an environment of inclusion and equality, but respecting that members participate to whatever extent they feel comfortable.
-
Create an empowering environment within the group setting, enabling participants to increase their assertiveness and self-esteem, thus taking better control of their lives.
-
Share resources and ideas about safety and coping strategies.
-
Provide a platform for dialogue to reduce stigma and isolation.
-
Promote the understanding that Domestic and Family Violence is unacceptable and a violation
of human rights.
-
Assist participants to recognise healthy and unhealthy relationships, and to explore what love
-
means for them.
